Alex Murdaugh, a disgraced legal scion, is requesting a second murder trial based on “newly discovered evidence” that he claims was withheld from a jury before his double murder conviction in March.
According to DailyMail, Murdaugh’s attorneys, who are 57 years old, have scheduled an impressive press conference for Tuesday afternoon because of their newly discovered evidence, where they will lay out their plan to have his double life sentence for the murders of his wife Maggie and son Paul overturned.
The lawyers for Murdaugh at his trial earlier this year, Dick Harpootlian and Jim Griffin, have not provided any information about the “Newly Discovered Evidence” they intend to present.
The action was taken a few days after Buster Murdaugh, the surviving son, ended a six-month silence about the ordeal his family went through and insisted he thought his father was wrongly imprisoned.

Six months after being found guilty of killing his wife and son, Alex Murdaugh filed for the reversal of his murder conviction.
The disgraced legal scion was found guilty in March of killing his wife Maggie and son Paul. His surviving son Buster insisted last week that he thinks Murdaugh was wrongly convicted.
The press conference will be held on the South Carolina State House grounds, close to the Court of Appeals, where Murdaugh’s attorneys recently submitted their application for a new trial, having newly discovered evidence, just over six months after they lost his murder trial.
On March 2, a jury found Murdaugh guilty of shooting Maggie and Alex to death in June 2021 at the family hunting lodge.
The day after his conviction, he was given two life sentences and reportedly spent his six months in prison taking advantage of his “celebrity” status by reading and responding to fan mail, writing letters, playing video games, and watching television.
But Murdaugh is also accused of surprising prison guards with his actions and disregard for the rules that apply to inmates.
Murdaugh was subject to a disciplinary hearing last week, according to McCormick Correctional Institution officials, for breaking prison rules regarding news interviews and using another inmate’s PIN to make calls from behind bars.
Griffin, who had recorded their conversation and given it to the media, reportedly heard Murdaugh read information to him.
Murdaugh’s phone and tablet were confiscated right away after the incident, forcing him to use another prisoner’s PIN to make calls.
