Content Of The Letter Says Otherwise
Kouri Richins, who is currently in jail, told her mother that the content of the letter found in her cell was for a novel she’s writing, not an attempt at witness tampering. The content of the letter, which instructed her mother and brother on what to tell investigators, was discovered by deputies in Summit County.
Richins claims that the content of the letter was part of her fictional mystery book and had nothing to do with tampering. Prosecutors argue that the content of the letter, including a reference to her attorney, suggests otherwise.
Richins has been charged in connection with her husband’s death and allegedly confessed to police that she made him a mixed drink on the night he died. The content of the letter also instructed her brother to say that her husband obtained drugs from Mexico.
Richins allegedly told her mother to convey the instructions in person, as she believed their house and phone were bugged. The content of the letter was later destroyed or flushed, according to prison officials.
According to a published article by The Messenger, Richins’ attorney claims that the content of the letter was privileged attorney-client communication since it was found in an envelope addressed to her attorney, but prosecutors dispute this.
