Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest of 16-Year-Old Suspect

In a significant development released by CBS News, in September 27, 2023, related to the shooting of Minneapolis Police Officer Jacob Spies, a 16-year-old boy was apprehended on Tuesday evening during a routine traffic stop on Dowling Avenue North and Morgan Avenue North. This arrest comes in the wake of a harrowing incident that occurred in August when Minneapolis Police Officer Jacob Spies was shot during a high-stakes pursuit. The apprehension of this teenager marks a crucial breakthrough in the ongoing investigation into this brazen attack.

On that fateful evening, officers were in pursuit of an SUV believed to be linked to a robbery in Brooklyn Park. The situation escalated rapidly as the driver of the suspect of Minneapolis Police Officer Jacob Spies  vehicle attempted to evade law enforcement. Approximately an hour into the chase, Minneapolis Police Officer Jacob Spies, who was driving an unmarked vehicle, started tailing the fleeing SUV.

Tragically, at 42nd Avenue North and Colfax Avenue North, an ambush unfolded. An assailant fired a dozen rounds from a Glock 19, a firearm modified with a switch, seriously injuring Minneapolis Police Officer Jacob Spies, who was struck in the shoulder.

The Ambush and Arrests

According to the report published by 5 Eye Witness News, in the aftermath of the shooting, investigators discovered a “ghost gun” without a serial number inside the suspect vehicle. Preliminary evidence suggests that this weapon was responsible for firing three shots to Minneapolis Police Officer Jacob Spies. Two additional individuals who were in the SUV at the time of the incident were also taken into custody.

The 16-year-old suspect, now in custody at the Hennepin County Juvenile Detention Center, faces a felony warrant for second-degree attempted murder of Minneapolis Police Officer Jacob Spies. This arrest underscores the tireless efforts of law enforcement officials in their quest for justice in a case that has gripped the Minneapolis community.
