Information From The Chronicle for Higher Education

A recent report from The Chronicle for Higher Education has revealed that Liberty University, an evangelical college, has been violating the Clery Act, which requires reporting on-campus crime data and informing students of those statistics. The Chronicle for Higher Education reported that the university has created a culture of silence that has made students afraid to report their assaults on campus for fear of punishment.

Additionally, there are allegations that Liberty destroyed evidence of crime reports made to the school according to the report by the Chronicle for Higher Education. The university’s code of conduct, known as “The Liberty Way,” promotes chastity for unwed students, but this creates a dilemma for victims of assault who may also violate this rule, the Chronicle for Higher Education added.

The Chronicle for Higher Education report highlights poor communication and the definition of Liberty’s amnesty policy, which is meant to support victims without punishment. According to a published article by Raw Story, records obtained by the Chronicle for Higher Education relating to assault allegations were found to be selectively destroyed, raising concerns about transparency and access to information.

Ignored Reports Of Sexual Assaults

In a published article by ProPublica, former students of Liberty University have accused the school of ignoring reports of sexual assault and punishing accusers for breaking its moral code. Students report being discouraged from filing complaints and being threatened with fines and disciplinary actions.
