The City Council of Ann Arbor, a city in Michigan, approved the monthly income program for its select residents. The program is said to last for two years and the funds will come from the American Rescue Plan, which amounts to $1.6 million in total. Ann Arbor, in partnership with the Poverty Solutions Department of the University of Michigan, will conduct a study that would analyze how the income program would affect the community.
Linh Song, a City Council member, says that through the income program, they hope to make the people stay in the city. Song added that Ann Arbor is a “really expensive city”, and that people need all the help they can get. The income program would target the moderate and low-income families of the city. Entrepreneurs are also on the list for the income program.
When Should The Selected Residents of Ann Arbor Expected Their First Checks?
Non-profit organizations will aid the selected residents and families of Ann Arbor to get in touch with the income program. Krystal Steward, a member of the Community Action Network, stated that they have a lot of residents that live within their neighborhood that are living off a limited income.
The city of Ann Arbor stated that the selected residents and families should expect the first wave of checks by January 2024. The city launched a website for its residents to check whether they are eligible for the program and how to register for said program.
