A woman in Montana pleaded guilty following the death of her 12-year-old grandson in February 2020.
12-Year-Old Boy Was Beaten to Death
James “Alex” Hurley, 12 years old, was beaten to death by some members of the family including his grandmother in February 2020. Patricia Batts, the grandmother, said that her son James Sasser III beat Hurley using a wooden paddle.
In a published article in TRUE CRIME DAILY, Batts allowed the abuse to occur in her home. She also admitted that she beat the 12-year-old boy. Additionally, it was also found that the family members duct tape Hurley in an attempt to prevent him from running.
Meanwhile, the autopsy revealed that the 12-year-old boy suffered from a blow to the back of his head and had bruising all over his body.

Grandmother Pleaded Guilty
According to a published article in the Associated Press, Patricia Batts pleaded guilty to partaking in the physical abuse and death of her 12-year-old grandson. She also entered into a plea for the following charges:
- deliberate homicide
- criminal child endangerment
- tampering with a witness or informant in connection
On the other hand, Sasser III also pleaded guilty in October 2020 and was sentenced to remain in juvenile detention until he turns 18 years old. He will be under supervision until he reaches the age of 21.
