N.J lawyer faces rape charges that took place 15 years ago

35-year-old New Jersey lawyer, Matthew Nilo from Massachusetts, was initially charged based on DNA evidence retrieved from a drinking glass.

The Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office announced that Nilo has been indicted on new rape charges relating to sexual attacks that took place between 2007 and 2008 in the North End neighborhood of Boston, according to CNN News.

The recent charges follow a similar pattern to the previous ones, where the victims were assaulted while walking alone in dark conditions during the night or early morning.

The newly-indicted attacks occurred while Nilo was residing in the North End, coinciding with the attacks on women in the Charlestown neighborhood, for which he was already charged, as per CNN’s previous report.

Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden mentioned that DNA evidence played a role in the additional charges.

Nilo’s attorney, Joseph Cataldo, stated that his client denies the allegations and plans to challenge the DNA analysis by filing motions, according to Morganton.

Nilo has been charged with one count of rape, one count of aggravated rape, three counts of assault with intent to rape, and two counts of indecent assault and battery.

He was released on bail and is scheduled to appear in court for the new charges on July 13th.
