An attorney representing a former university student in Northern California who is accused of killing two people with a knife and trying to kill third claims that his client has not taken a shower in the nearly three months he has been detained.

In a report from U.S News, according to his lawyer, the former college student who is accused of murder in connection with the stabbing deaths of two people and the attempted murder of a third in a college town in Northern California has not showered in the nearly three months that he has been detained.

He also goes days without eating, but he still has faith that he will return to his studies.

A Yolo County deputy public defender, Dan Hutchinson, made the comments during a hearing to establish if Carlos Dominguez is mentally fit to take part in a felony trial for the stabbings that shook the University of California, Davis campus and neighborhood.

According to Hutchinson, he will provide proof that Carlos Dominguez began exhibiting overt symptoms of schizophrenia at the end of his freshman year.

According to the prosecution, Carlos Dominguez is “toying with the system,” and should be put on trial.

Jurors will ultimately decide whether he is fit for trial. To be found mentally unfit, the defense must show that Carlos Dominguez cannot currently understand court proceedings, assist his attorney in his defense and understand his status in the criminal proceeding.

If jurors find Carlos Dominguez not competent, he will be evaluated for treatment at a state mental health hospital instead of proceeding with a criminal trial.

A week after the initial victim was discovered, on May 4, Carlos Dominguez was captured close to the scene of the second assault.
