Hotel housekeepers need to secure a union contract before Swift’s concerts

According to a published article from KNX News, the wildly popular Eras Tour will continue in Los Angeles the next week with five distinct performances at SoFi Stadium from August 3 to August 9.

Over the course of the singer’s nearly week-long stay, the series of concerts is anticipated to draw thousands of tourists to the area and help the local economy even the hotel housekeepers.

Thousands of hotel housekeepers are now on strike, and the union that represents them is requesting that the megastar postpone her appearances in favor of their demands for more pay and better benefits.

In a letter published on Thursday, Unite Here Local 11, the union that represents the striking hotel housekeepers at more than 60 Southern California hotels, pleaded with Swift to take their request into consideration because it will have a significant effect on the hotel business.

The “Swift Lift” effects on local hotels at Los Angeles and hotel housekeepers

According to a published article from CBS News, when concertgoers swarm to a city, the “Swift Lift” is known to increase accommodation rates and enhance the local economy as a whole. The union of hotel housekeepers claims that the economic impact is comparable to staging multiple Super Bowls back-to-back.

However, the advantages won’t be shared by hotel housekeepers, who have been operating without a union contract since the beginning of July. Swift was invited to join the fight for a fair deal by hotel staff Thursday as they walked the picket lines at multiple locations.

Those hotel housekeepers who belong to Unite Here Local 11, which represents 15,000 workers at 65 hotels in Los Angeles and Orange counties have repeatedly taken an unpaid leave of absence during the month of July in protest of low pay and inadequate health and pension benefits.
