Months after a wrong-way driver slammed his SUV into a gathering of police trainees, a Los Angeles County sheriff’s recruit died. The suspect was apprehended but quickly freed because the investigation needed to be handled totally.

The driver was identified as Nicholas Gutierrez, a 23-year-old man who is on an extreme investigation after the death of Martinez who was one of the 25 recruits struck by an SUV on November 16, 2022.
Martinez was among a group of 25 trainees harmed shortly after an SUV slammed them on an early-morning training run in the city of Whittier on Nov. 16, 2022, said the investigators. According to officials, the driver of the vehicle was driving the wrong way down the street when he crashed into the group of people at around 6:29 a.m.
Investigations are still ongoing
Just before 6:30 a.m., approximately 75 recruits from Sheriff’s Academy Class 464 were running near the intersection of Mills Avenue and Telegraph Road in Whittier. A total of 25 cadets were hurt.
According to an ABC News report, the California Highway Patrol is still investigating the cause of the incident. They vow to carry out an active inquiry into the wrong-way driver and the victims.
