An asteroid similar to the size of the Chelyabinsk space rock could make a very close approach to Earth in the coming days.
With the help of advanced ground and space-based telescopes like the Asteroid Terrestrial-impact Last Alert System (ATLAS), Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE), and Pans-STARRS1, NASA discovered an asteroid approaching Earth, which will buzz Earth in the coming days.
According to details revealed by NASA, the 58-foot wide asteroid approaching Earth is identified as Asteroid 2023 OE5, The said asteroid approaching earth travels at a speed of 13930 kilometers per hour. The asteroid approaching Earth will come closer to the Earth on August 14, which will come as close as 1.5 million kilometers to the planet.
Asteroid approaching Earth at close distances happens regularly, but not all of them actually hit the Earth’s surface. That may be the case now but there is no guarantee that a random asteroid approaching would not hit Earth’s surface.

In 2013, an asteroid exploded over the Chelyabinsk City in Russia and damaged over 8000 buildings and leaving nearly 1000 people injured. The asteroid was called the Chelyabinsk space rock which is as big as a house.
This close call emphasizes the importance of observing any asteroid approaching Earth to make sure if it has any potential to hit the Earth’s surface.
According to The Sky Live, the asteroid approaching Earth, Asteroid (NEO) 2023 OE5, is currently in the constellation of Pisces with the current Right Ascension of 00h 05m 17s and with the Declination of +06° 55’ 15”.
Although NASA scientists estimates that an asteroid would have to be about 96km wide to completely destroy all life forms in Earth, smaller asteroids like the asteroid approaching Earth, the Asteroid 2023 OE5 could also have the potential to cause considerable damage like the Chelyabinsk space rock.
