U.S. Open Qualifier Talent Joins UCLA: Catherine Andrews Secures Spot in Class of 2024!

Catherine Andrews, hailing from Seattle, Washington, and a U.S. open qualifier, has made an exciting declaration of her intention to attend UCLA. Anticipated to join the campus community in the autumn of 2024, she brings with her a wave of enthusiasm and promise.

Catherine Andrews, a native of Seattle, Washington and a U.S. open qualifier, has declared her intention to attend UCLA. She will begin her studies and swimming career at the university in Fall 2024.

In expressing her commitment, she expressed her excitement and gratitude towards her teammates, coaches, friends, and family for their support throughout the process. She also thanked the UCLA community for embracing her and enthusiastically declared her support for the UCLA Bruins.

Catherine Andrews, a native of Seattle, Washington and a U.S. open qualifier qualifier, has confirmed her commitment to UCLA. She is set to join the campus in Fall 2024.

Andrews is a year-round athlete who trains with the Seattle Metropolitan Aquatic Club. She recently achieved 14th place in the 100m backstroke at the Junior Nationals, after winning both backstroke events at the PN Senior Championships.

In June, the U.S. open qualifier, Andrews, competed in the Mel Zajac Junior International meet, securing seventh place in the 100m backstroke and ninth place in the 200m backstroke.

Her notable personal records include:

  • 100m backstroke: 53.76

  • 200m backstroke: 1:57.04

  • 50m freestyle: 23.82

  • 100m freestyle: 50.73

  • 200m freestyle: 1:51.92

The U.S. open qualifier, Catherine Andrews, currently a senior at Roosevelt High School, achieved second place in the 100 backstroke and secured sixth place in the 50 freestyle at the 2022 Washington 3A State Championships. Additionally, during her sophomore year, she earned bronze medals in both the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke events.

The Bruins made an excellent choice by recruiting the U.S. open qualifier Catherine Andrews, as her impressive times in the 100 backstroke and 200 backstroke would have placed her in the B-final at the 2023 Pac-12 Championships.

A Brief Athletic Record of an Unstoppable talent of a U.S. Open Qualifier Catherine Andrews

Andrews, a senior at Roosevelt High School, swims year-round with the Seattle Metropolitan Aquatic Club (SMAC) and specializes in backstroke and sprint freestyle. In the 2022 Washington 3A High School State Meet, she finished as the runner-up in the 100 back (54.64) and placed 6th in the 50 free (23.90) as a junior. Following that, she competed in Winter Juniors West, achieving a personal best in the 100 back and participating in the 50 free and 100/200 back events. At the Northwest Spring Sectionals in Federal Way, she won the 100 back (53.76) and came in 2nd in the 200 back (1:57.04). Additionally, she reached the finals in the 50 free (22nd), 100 free (11th), and 100 fly (24th).

Andrews had a successful long course season, achieving personal best times in the 50/100/200 freestyle and 100/200 backstroke events. She won both backstroke events and placed 2nd and 3rd in the 50/100 freestyle events at the Pacific Northwest Senior Championships in July. Two weeks later, she competed in the 50/100 freestyle and 100/200 backstroke events at Summer Juniors in Irvine, finishing 14th in the 100 backstroke.

The U.S. open qualifier, Catherine Andrews is set to join Anna Wetteland, Claudia Yovanovich, and Grace Dougherty in Westwood by the fall of 2024.
