On Monday afternoon, UNC-Chapel Hill officials initiated a campus lockdown after receiving a report of an armed and dangerous individual at around 1 p.m. Police were called in to conduct a search for the UNC-Chapel Hill shooting suspect.

A faculty member was killed during the UNC-Chapel Hill shooting incident.

After a three-hour alert about an armed person responsible for the UNC-Chapel Hill shooting incident on campus, the police have declared it safe and lifted the shelter-in-place advisory at 4:14 p.m.

UNC police released a photo of a person of interest in an ongoing situation and asked people on campus to keep their distance if they spotted Hill the UNC-Chapel shooting suspect and immediately call 911.

Police Chief Brian James announced that the UNC-Chapel Hill shooting male suspect has been arrested. Both local law enforcement and the FBI are present at the scene of the UNC-Chapel Hill shooting incident to gather evidence.

The motive behind the UNC-Chapel Hill shooting incident is still unknown, as per UNC Police Chief Brian James.

It remains unclear whether the UNC-Chapel Hill shooting victim and the attacker had any prior connection, CNN added.
