We’re talking about real dangers that rank the state as the tenth riskiest in the country. The details begin with the Most Dangerous Places In Oklahoma. The goal was to educate the public on how to get around potential trouble spots so they could still hear the conversation. It’s the kind of information that residents of Oklahoma might see on News 9 in Norman at six or on Crime Watch in Lawton at ten.

If you live in Piedmont, the safest city in Oklahoma, keep living your peaceful life; if not, we advise you to look over the list below. There may be some unexpected entries.

 Oklahoma City

Due to its high rate of property crimes per capita (the highest of any city we looked at), Oklahoma City was determined to be one of the most dangerous places in Oklahoma. In terms of the high murder rate per capita, it also tied for first place with another city. Overall, there was a 1 in 15 chance that a resident would become the victim of a crime. To put that in perspective, it was closer to 1 in 20 in most places, and it was almost 1 in 50 in some of the safer cities, like Edmond.

Ardmore

While this Carter County city didn’t have nearly the number of murders per person as our first city (Ardmore ranked 10th in this category), it did have more violent crimes overall. It had both the second most dangerous places in Oklahoma. This combination gave it the highest number of total crimes per person in 2012, which meant that in Ardmore, residents’ chances of being the victim of one of these crimes was just 1 in 14.

Tulsa

Tulsa, the county seat and northeastern quadrant of Tulsa, has developed since the 1950s due to its proximity to Interstates and State Highways. (Photo: iStock)

In terms of total crime, Tulsa ranked sixth on the list of the most dangerous places in Oklahoma. This was due to the high number of violent crimes, particularly murders, as well as property crimes. Out of all the counties in the state, it had the fifth most murders per resident.
