Record-breaking Missile Launches Highlight F-15EX Capabilities

According to the news released by The Defense Post, in September 06, 2023, during the testing phase, the F-15EX Eagle II demonstrated its exceptional capabilities by achieving record-breaking air-to-air and air-to-ground munition launches, setting new standards in the annals of U.S. military aviation history. This remarkable feat US Air Force test also showcased the aircraft’s seamless integration with 5th-generation aircraft.

Notably, the jet US Air Force test successfully launched the Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile (JASSM) and the AIM-120 Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missile (AMRAAM), both with impressive ranges. The ability of the F-15EX to employ three JASSMs and the validation of its air-to-air dominance role with a 12-AMRAAM loadout have garnered praise from experts.

Maj. Calvin Conner, a key figure in the testing process, emphasized the tremendous firepower that a squadron of F-15EXs brings to a combat scenario. This remarkable display of military prowess signifies a significant advancement in the US Air Force test capabilities.

Next Steps in F-15EX Development and Production

In a recent report published by Air and Space Forces, as the F-15EX Eagle II completes its initial test phase, the focus now shifts to the delivery of the first Lot 1B aircraft to Eglin Air Force Base, Florida, in the coming weeks. This delivery marks another crucial step in the aircraft’s US Air Force test development journey. Following this, the Air Force is expected to make the highly anticipated full-rate production decision during the fall season.

The F-15EX program is unique in its approach, combining Integrated Test and Evaluation (IOT&E) and Director of Operational Test and Evaluation (DOT&E) efforts. This innovative strategy of US Air Force test allows for the efficient comparison of data from legacy F-15 models with the F-15EX, concentrating on the latter’s advanced features and increased weapon stations. The accelerated testing process aims to expedite the deployment of the F-15EX, which will replace aging F-15C/D models, ensuring theUS Air Force test readiness for future challenges.
