In a published article by WOAI, the Food Allergy Research & Education’s Teal Pumpkin Project aims to make Halloween safer for children with food allergies. Teal-colored pumpkins, signs, and banners, as well as pumpkin leaf bags reading “non-food treats here,” are used to indicate houses that offer non-food treats for trick-or-treaters.
This project is important because more children are living with food allergies, and ingestion of allergenic foods can be life-threatening. Parents of children with food allergies are advised to read labels carefully.
