Gruesome Scene Unveiled: Man Charged with Murder in Parents’ Stabbing Deaths
According to source, in Barnegat Township, a tragic incident unfolded as two adults, Eugene and Cheryl Mulgrew, both residents of Lincoln Avenue, became the victims of a man charged with murder on November 2, 2023. Michael Mulgrew, their 34-year-old son, was subsequently man charged with murder, facing two counts of Murder, as well as Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon in connection with the stabbing deaths of his parents.
The discovery was made when officers from the Barnegat Township Police Department responded to a call for medical assistance at the Mulgrew residence and noticed bloodstains on the front door.
Upon entering the home, officers discovered a man charged with murder and found blood in various areas and, tragically, the lifeless bodies of Eugene and Cheryl Mulgrew in the bedroom, both with apparent stab wounds to their upper torsos. A knife was found in the vicinity of the bedroom, further implicating the scene.

Swift Apprehension and Joint Efforts: Arrest of Man Charged with Murder Praised
Michael Mulgrew, who had been seen walking away from the residence, was apprehended in the area of West Bay Boulevard and Gunning River Road by Barnegat Township Police Officers and taken into custody without incident.
Following his arrest Michael Mulgrew, the man charged with murder, was transported to the Ocean County Jail, where he is currently held pending a detention hearing. The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, Barnegat Township Police Department, Barnegat Township Police Department Detective Bureau, and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit were commended for their joint efforts in swiftly resolving this tragic case involving a man charged with murder.
