Sean Manaea’s Decision

Left-handed pitcher Sean Manaea has made the decision to become a free agent by opting out of his 2024 contract with the San Francisco Giants. Despite signing a $25 million, two-year deal with the Giants last December, Sean Manaea has chosen to explore other opportunities.

However, Sean Manaea expressed gratitude towards the Giants organization and had a positive experience with them. Throughout Sean Manaea’s one season with the Giants, Manaea had a 7-6 record with a 4.44 ERA over 37 appearances, although he did not fulfill the expected regular rotation role.

If Sean Manaea joins another team, he will not have the chance to reunite with his former manager Bob Melvin, who is currently managing the Giants. Sean Manaea previously played for the Oakland Athletics and the San Diego Padres.

According to a published article by AP News, Sean Manaea has been open about his struggles with mental health during his time with the Padres, which had an impact on his confidence and performance. It is also worth noting that Sean Manaea achieved a no-hitter against the Red Sox in 2018 while playing for the Athletics.

A Better Contract

In a published article by Sports Illustrated, despite some inconsistencies, Manaea had a strong finish to the season and is expected to receive a better contract elsewhere.

It is unlikely that Manaea will return to the Giants next season, as he will likely be a target for teams looking to strengthen their pitching staff.
