Colonial history has shaped the present state of the cities in Virginia. However, the high crime rates in certain cities in Virginia tarnish the state’s reputation as a good place to visit.
Violent crimes such as murder, robbery, and assault are prevalent in the cities in Virginia. Cities in Virginia also suffer from property crimes like burglary, theft, and vehicle theft.
According to a published article by Property Club NYC, Richmond, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Roanoke, and Petersburg are deemed highly dangerous cities in Virginia due to their high rates of violent crime. Fredericksburg, Hopewell, Bristol, Danville, and Newport News are also cities in Virginia that also share similar unsafe conditions.
Attacks On Homeless People In West Virginia
In a published article by The Register-Herald, multiple attacks on homeless populations have occurred in West Virginia recently. The Wheeling City Council passed an ordinance banning camping on public property without permission, effective from January 1, 2024. Monongalia County Commission also passed an ordinance prohibiting panhandling at busy intersections.
Manna Meal, Charleston’s only soup kitchen, closed its physical location due to an incident involving a man near a nearby school, which upset parents who had organized to shut down the soup kitchen. Former Del. Doug Skaff introduced a bill to prohibit feeding areas for homeless people near schools, but it did not pass.
