Parole Grant For Oscar Pistorius

Former Paralympic gold medalist and Olympic runner Oscar Pistorius has been granted parole, but the decision will not take effect until January 5th. In 2013, car Pistorius shot and killed Reeva Steenkamp, who was his girlfriend.

The parole board considered factors such as Oscar Pistorius’ behavior in prison, participation in educational programs, mental and physical health, likelihood of relapse, and risk to the public. The Department of Correctional Services noted that Oscar Pistorius is a first-time offender with a positive support system.

Oscar Pistorius will complete the remainder of his sentence under community corrections and be supervised in accordance with parole conditions. Oscar Pistorius’ uncle’s property in Pretoria will serve as his parole location.

According to a published article by CBS News, Oscar Pistorius was initially found guilty of culpable homicide, but his conviction was later changed to murder, resulting in a prison sentence of 13 years and five months in 2017. In March, Oscar Pistorius was denied parole due to not fulfilling the minimum detention period prerequisite.

Certain Conditions To Follow

In a published article by AP News, Pistorius will have certain conditions to follow and will need to notify his monitoring official of major life events or changes.

He will not wear a monitoring bracelet, which is not part of the parole procedure in South Africa.
