Wichita’s Property Tax Relief

The city of Wichita has approved a pilot program to provide targeted property tax relief to vulnerable residents. The program about property tax relief will reimburse low-income seniors, disabled veterans, and their spouses, and low-income residents with underage dependents for a portion of their 2023 property taxes.

In line with the property tax relief program, four in five homeowners in Sedgwick County saw their property values increase, leading to an overall tax valuation increase of 9.3% in Wichita. The property tax relief aims to provide up to $660,000 in refunds on a first-come, first-served basis until November 30, 2024, or until funds run out.

According to a published article by The Wichita Eagle, eligibility for the property tax relief program requires residents to file their 2023 Kansas income tax return and receive one of three state tax credits. The property tax relief program is the largest targeted tax relief effort in Wichita in at least a generation.

Funded By The City’s Property Tax Revenue

In a published article by KSN-TV, the program will be funded by allocating $660,000 from the City’s property tax revenue.

It is specifically reserved for individuals who receive benefits from three state initiatives: Kansas Property Tax Relief for Low-Income Seniors, Property Tax Relief For Seniors and Disabled Veterans, and Kansas Homestead Claim.

Applicants will need to submit a form from the City.
