All Because Of Bribes From An Intelligence Officer

A US Navy serviceman named Wenheng Zhao has been sentenced to over two years in federal prison for accepting bribes from a Chinese intelligence officer.

Zhao admitted to receiving around $15,000 in bribes from an intelligence officer and sharing sensitive US military information with China.

Through the bribes from the intelligence officer, plans for a maritime training exercise, operational orders, and blueprints for a Japanese radar system were shared.

According to a published article by the New York Post, Zhao’s attorney argued for a 12-month sentence, but he was given 27 months in prison due to the seriousness of his actions and the potential harm to national security because he accepted bribes from the said Chinese intelligence officer.

This case of the Navu serviceman who accepted bribes from the Chinese intelligence officer highlights the importance of protecting sensitive information and the need for strong penalties to deter espionage activities.

The Serviceman Who Accepted Bribes From The Intelligence Officer Has Pleaded Guilty

In a published article by WION, Zhao pleaded guilty to conspiracy with a foreign intelligence officer and accepting a bribe. He was stationed at the Naval Base Ventura County in California and received nearly $15,000 between August 2021 and May 2023.

Another sailor, Jinchao Wei, was also arrested for allegedly planning to give China documents and videos about ship operations.
