Chicago Neighborhoods Tourists Should Be Avoiding

Chicago neighborhoods are known for being busy, but they also have a high crime rate. Compared to the national average, the crime rate in Chicago neighborhoods is 67% higher. Violent and property crimes are particularly problematic.

According to an article by the Southwest Journal, West Garfield Park is one of the most dangerous Chicago neighborhoods, with the highest crime rates. Violent crime in this area is 379% higher than in the rest of the city, and residents have a 1 in 20 chance of becoming a victim.

Gang activity plays a significant role in the violence. Washington Park is also one of the most highly unsafe Chicago neighborhoods, with violent crime 701% above the national average. The overall crime rate is 250% higher. Austin, situated on the West side, is another one of the most dangerous Chicago neighborhoods, ranking 11th in violent crime and 25th in property crime.

East Garfield Park and Englewood are also among the most dangerous Chicago neighborhoods, facing issues of gun violence, gang activity, and high crime rates. Englewood has a violence-related crime rate of 2,837 per 100,000 people and a property-related crime rate of 5,984 per 100,000 people.

These challenges experienced by Chicago neighborhoods are worsened by a high poverty rate, which is often associated with increased crime rates.

Winter Storm In Chicago

In a published article by ABC7 Chicago, a winter storm in Chicago has brought wet, sloppy snow, making roads slippery. The snowfall began on Tuesday morning and continued into the afternoon, creating slushy conditions with a mix of rain and snow.

The snow will lessen in the evening, but strong winds will persist. Areas north and west of the city are expected to receive an additional 4 to 7 inches of snow, while the city and its surrounding areas will likely see 1 to 2 more inches.
