Ann Arbor’s Guaranteed Income Program Delivers $528 Monthly Boost: Michigan Stimulus Update

Guaranteed Income to Grow Ann Arbor is a two-year experimental program led by the University of Michigan Poverty Solutions team. It targets 100 randomly selected small-business owners and entrepreneurs in financial distress with $1.6 million from the government’s American Rescue Plan.

The program, which ends in 2025, pays on the 15th of each month, adjusted for weekends and holidays. Kristin Seefeldt, associate director of Poverty Solutions, confirmed the February 15 payment date.

Kristin Seefeldt explained the program’s goal of honoring community people who improve the community despite financial problems. Last year, she stressed the program’s support for low-income families.

Michigan Stimulus Update: Requirements and Flexibility

To receive this much-needed cash boost, candidates had to meet certain requirements.

  • Ann Arbor residents
  • 18 or older
  • incomes below 225% of the federal poverty line were eligible.

The grant reached entrepreneurs, formal or informal small business owners, independent contractors, and gig workers in numerous industries. Flexibility distinguishes this initiative. Food stamps limit spending to specified categories, whereas the Guaranteed Income to Grow Ann Arbor lets recipients choose their expenditures.

This Michigan Stimulus Update can help recipients use the money to pay bills, save, or buy birthday presents, she said. Giving people dignity and respecting their choices is key. This Michigan Stimulus Update empowers people by acknowledging their problems and honoring their individuality in making decisions that best suit their circumstances.
