Which Neighborhoods In Detroit You Should Avoid

Many diverse neighborhoods in Detroit offer a range of cultures and lifestyles. While it has a reputation as a great place to live with a strong economy and plenty of entertainment options, not all neighborhoods in Detroit live up to this charm.

According to a published article by the Southwest Journal, Chaldean Town is one of the most challenging neighborhoods in Detroit, characterized by economic struggles, including a high unemployment rate of 24.7% and a low median income of $16,172. Forest Park, is also deemed as one of the most challenging neighborhoods in Detroit since it faces significant economic and social challenges.

Petosky-Otsego, one of the smallest neighborhoods in Detroit, is also struggling with economic hardship. It has an unemployment rate of 14.9% and a median income of $18,799, making it a tough place to establish roots.

Another one of the most challenging neighborhoods in Detroit is Poletown East, which is also facing economic challenges. Despite its proximity to a General Motors assembly plant, it has a high unemployment rate of 14.9% and a low median income of $16,286.

Milwaukee Junction, one of the neighborhoods in Detroit known for its auto manufacturing industry, is currently facing several difficulties. The area, which now has a population of 743, is grappling with a high unemployment rate of 12.4% and a median income of $22,039.

Weatherby is also one of the neighborhoods in Detroit currently struggling with drug-related crimes.

Investments From The Strategic Neighborhood Fund

In a published article by ClickOnDetroit, the Dexter Avenue corridor on Detroit’s west side, which has been neglected for some time, is now receiving over $21.5 million in investments from the Strategic Neighborhood Fund.

This funding has sparked new energy in the area, with local businesses like In Harmony Café hoping to contribute to its revitalization. The funds will be used for various improvements, including new streetscapes, park enhancements, murals, and façade improvements.
