Moody’s journey took a thrilling turn when the San Francisco 49ers selected him in the third round, making him the 99th overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft. This marked only the second time in the last 15 drafts that a kicker had been chosen within the top 100 selections, joining Roberto Aguayo in 2016. He also became just the fifth kicker since 2000 to be selected in the first three rounds. In a remarkable twist, Moody and his Michigan teammate Brad Robbins were drafted as the second punter and kicker duo in the same draft in the past four decades.
He paved the way for other kickers in the 2023 draft, including Chad Ryland and Anders Carlson. Despite sustaining an injury in the final preseason game, Moody received clearance as the starting kicker for Week 1 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
