Undeterred, Bubba’s radio odyssey led him back to Chicago on WYZT as the morning host, but the stint was short-lived, lasting less than three months before the station underwent a rebranding. This prompted Bubba’s move to WLUM-FM in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

It was in September 1992 when Bubba found his groove at WFLZ-FM in Tampa, Florida, where his show struck a chord with audiences, especially teenagers. As his popularity soared, so did his paycheck, with his first major contract clocking in at a cool $100,000 per year.

Yet, fame sometimes comes with its fair share of drama, and Bubba found himself in the midst of legal wrangling when he and WFLZ host Tom Steele were temporarily suspended due to their on-air feud.

In a bold move in July 2004, Bubba threw his hat into the political ring, announcing his bid for Pinellas County sheriff. Then, in a seismic shift in September 2005, Bubba caught the attention of none other than Howard Stern, who tapped him to helm weekday afternoons on Howard 101, his Sirius Satellite Radio channel.
