At just 14 years old, Riyan Parag was on the brink of becoming India’s youngest first-class debutant. However, Assam selectors didn’t see eye-to-eye with the state’s coach, Sanath Kumar. In 2017, he showcased his talent by joining India’s Under-19 squad for youth Tests in England, finishing as the team’s second-highest run-scorer behind Prithvi Shaw.
Following his impressive performances, Parag earned a spot in the India A squad for the U19 Challenger Trophy in 2017, emerging as the tournament’s top run-getter. Later that year, he was named in India’s squad for the 2018 Under-19 Cricket World Cup.
In December 2018, Rajasthan Royals secured Parag’s services in the IPL auction, and during the 2019 season, he etched his name in history by becoming the youngest player to score a fifty in the tournament’s history. Despite being just 17 years and 175 days old, he broke the previous record jointly held by Sanju Samson and Prithvi Shaw.
Although released by Rajasthan ahead of the 2022 IPL mega auction, Parag found himself back in their ranks after being re-bought in February 2022. Additionally, he earned a place in the India A squad for the 2023 ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup, where he made a mark in the final against Pakistan A by claiming two crucial wickets in consecutive deliveries.
