The incident about the five young men took place in a rural area near Celaya, which has experienced a rise in drug cartel violence. Although reports suggest that the five young men were shot, this has yet to be officially confirmed.
According to a published article by Fox News, back in June, a car bomb targeted law enforcement in Celaya, resulting in the death of a National Guard officer.
The Santa Rosa de Lima cartel, engaged in a violent rivalry with the Jalisco cartel for control of Guanajuato, was held responsible for the attack.

In a published article by ABC News, the Latina University of Mexico confirmed that all five young men were from their institution. The university also suspended classes in mourning for the untimely death of the five young men.
While local media reported gunshots as the cause of death of the five young men, it hasn’t been confirmed by prosecutors. This incident that caused the death of the five young men is believed to be part of a violent struggle for control between the Santa Rosa de Lima cartel and the Jalisco cartel in the region.
