Rapper arrested
Jamell Demons, recognized as Rapper YNW Melly, faces the possibility of a death sentence for the fatal shooting of his childhood friends, Anthony Williams and Christopher Thomas Jr, in October 2018, according to AP News.Â
Henry informed the police that after a recording session in Fort Lauderdale, he was accompanied by Williams and Thomas in a Jeep when another car approached them and started shooting. Henry said he was able to duck but Williams and Thomas were hit.
However, when officers arrived at the crime scene, detectives confirmed that there was no tangible evidence to support the occurrence of a shooting, according to Law and Crime.
The Crime was staged
Prosecutors allege that Demons, 24, fatally shot Williams and Thomas. Henry is charged as an accomplice but will face a separate trial.
Prosecutors believe that after the shooting, Demons and Henry transported the bodies to an area near the Everglades, where they fired shots at the back and passenger sides of the Jeep from the outside, attempting to make it appear as if Williams and Thomas were victims of a drive-by shooting.
Prosecutors argue that the incident was a result of gang activity, while the defense challenges the credibility of the motive by highlighting the close friendship that existed between Demons and the victims.
