Thousands pay tribute while hundreds mourn O’Shae Sibley’s passing after being fatally stabbed in a murder motivated by hate.

After confronting a group of teens who were making fun of his group of gay, black friends, O’Shae Sibley, 28, was fatally stabbed at a gas station in Brooklyn last week. The 17-year-old suspect has been accused of the murder after he fatally stabbed Sibley with racial motivation. Sibley was remembered by mourners as a ‘beacon of light’ for many people in his neighborhood.
After being fatally stabbed, police are looking into whether Sibley’s death was the result of a bias attack on a street that has seen many of them. The 17-year-old said to be main suspect was overheard claiming to be a Muslim by at least two witnesses, as the teenager fatally stabbed Sibley on Saturday night.
To honor O’Shae Sibley, a beloved dancer from New York City who was fatally stabbed by a 17-year-old in what has been called a “hate motivated murder,” hundreds of mourners showed up.
Before he was fatally stabbed, Sibley, 28, was ‘vogueing’ and dancing while filling up his car at a gas station in Midwood, Brooklyn. The music was by Beyonce.
Sibley’s funeral was held at the historic opera house in his hometown of Philadelphia on Tuesday, and more than 200 people came.
Sibley relocated to New York to further his dancing career. He danced as part of a performance by the dance group Philadanco to celebrate his LGBTQ+ identity.
After Sibley was fatally stabbed and fell, his close friend Otis Pena rushed over and used his hand to try to stop the bleeding. Hours later, Otis Pena, a close friend of Sibley’s who was at the gas station, posted a Facebook video about his sorrow. O’Shae had the capacity to move anyone who came into contact with him.
Because we are gay, they despise us. Pena posted this on Facebook. “We are Muslims, and we detest homosexuals!” You people chose to fatally stabbed one of us while we were just pumping gas!”
