NFL player Michael Oher, whose alleged adoption out of abject poverty by a wealthy, white family was memorialized in the 2009 film “The Blind Side,” filed a petition with a Tennessee court on Monday, alleging that a key aspect of the narrative was a fabrication created by the family to benefit themselves at his expense.
The former NFL player Michael Oher was taken into Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy’s home as a high school student, but according to the 14-page petition submitted in Shelby County, Tennessee, probate court, they never adopted him.
Instead, the couple allegedly tricked the former NFL player Michael Oher into signing a document designating them as his conservators less than three months after he turned 18 in 2004, according to the petition.

This gave them the legal right to conduct business on the former NFL player Michael Oher’s behalf.
The petition also claims that the Tuohys used their position as conservators to negotiate a deal that gave their two biological children and themselves millions of dollars in royalties from an Oscar-winning movie that made more than $300 million, but the former NFL player Michael Oher received nothing for a story “that would not have existed without him.”
Since then, the Tuohys have continued to refer to the former NFL player Michael Oher, now 37, as their adopted son and have used that claim to promote both their foundation and L.
Sean Tuohy expressed his shock at the former NFL player Michael Oher’s claims to the Daily Memphian website and claimed that his family “didn’t make any money off the movie,” only a portion of the sales of Michael Lewis’ book, which served as the inspiration for the movie.
