With the rise of basic necessities straining household budgets across the nation, the rebates for New Mexico taxpayers were approved by Governor Michelle Lujuan Grisham and the New Mexico Legislature in 2023, as well as economic relief payments to New Mexico residents, according to New Mexico Taxation & Revenue.
New Mexico Rebate Checks
A $1000 income tax rebate is refundable to the head of the household, married couples filing joint returns, and surviving spouses. While $500 will be given for single filers and married individuals who have filed separately. The rebates are said to be sent automatically to New Mexico residents that have filed a 2021 Personal Income Tax (PIT) Return and those who are not declared as dependents on another taxpayer’s return.

How and when will I get the rebate check?
New Mexico residents who received their 2021 refund by direct deposit will receive their rebate directly into the bank account that they listed on their 2021 tax return. Others will receive their rebates by check. And those who changed their banking information after filing a tax return
Rebates will be sent out by mail to those residents who have changed their banking information after filing a 2021 tax return. And starting on June 16, the residents will be able to see their rebates in their bank accounts, according to KOAT Action News.
