The Vatican girl that was missing since 1983 now has new leads regarding her disappearance that are grounds for further investigation.
The “Vatican Girl” That Went Missing Since 1983
The Vatican girl that went missing in 1983 is Emanuela Orlandi. On the day she went missing, she was supposed to go to a music lesson in Rome. Her family was staying in their Vatican City apartment since her father was a Holy See employee. Her disappearance throughout the years was linked to a financial scandal of the Vatican bank to the assassination plot of St. John Paul II and the criminal underworld of Rome.
Alessandro Diddi, the criminal prosecutor of Vatican City, announced last Thursday that he sent all the evidence he had gathered over the past six months regarding Orlandi’s disappearance to multiple prosecutors in Rome. He added that he will keep on working on the case.
Interest in Orlandi’s disappearance resurfaced due to a Netflix documentary entitled “Vatican Girl“, which explored all possibilities and angles about her disappearance. A testimony from Orlandi’s friend was included in the documentary, saying that she disappeared the following week after telling her that a Vatican cleric had some sexual intentions toward her.

Prosecutor Of Vatican City On The Case
Giuseppe Pignatore, former chief prosecutor of Rome who kept the case within the Italian system, is now working with Diddi on the case. In a statement from Diddi’s office, they collected all the essential evidence from the Holy See and the structures within the Vatican.
Diddi also mentioned that they interrogated former Vatican employees from the day Orlandi went missing, which was 40 years ago. Orlandi’s brother, Pietro, plans to have a sit-in near the Vatican this coming Sunday. He thinks that it is about time that the Vatican to answer for his sister’s disappearance.
