Delaware To Experience Low-Cost Internet

A federal grant under the Biden-Harris administration is now giving access to high-speed internet nationwide, including hard-to-access areas with little to no access to the internet. Recently, the state of Delaware just received $107 million which would be used to implement low-cost internet in the state. The grant for the low-cost internet was announced last June 26 and came through the Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment Program. The program would tend to areas that are currently struggling with internet connection and would implement low-cost internet in states that would be covered under the grant.

The grant came in after the approval and implementation of the Affordable Connectivity Program. This program goes hand-in-hand with the Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment Program as it helps various households across the nation to get monthly discounts on internet payments, as well as upgrading to a reliable internet connection. According to a news release, some families may be eligible for low-cost internet connection or even free connection services.

Programs In Place For Low-Cost Internet

Delaware Gov. John Carney, along with other leaders within the state, launch a united effort to implement low-cost internet within the state by enrolling Delawareans into the Affordable Connectivity Program. At the moment, the state’s internet connectivity expansion is reaching up to 6,000 areas using the funds and around 4,000 locations using the funds from the Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment Program.

Under the Affordable Connectivity Program, low-cost internet will now be a reality for up to 140,000 Delaware households. The program is aimed at the overlooked and hard-to-reach areas of the state. To further aid Delawareans in enrolling in the low-cost internet program, the state created a tool for its residents for them to check if they are eligible for the low-cost internet program.
