What are the most dangerous cities in Northern California? What are the safest cities? We examined the FBI’s most recent crime statistics and examined the state’s overall violent crime rate.

According to the article from Santa Rosa Law, Oakland’s reputation as a dangerous, crime-ridden city is well-deserved. In order to determine the rankings, the Benchmark team and us looked at a variety of crimes as well as the population of California’s cities.

To avoid having a sample size that was too small, the included cities in the study that had a minimum population of at least 30,000 people.

Divided the total population of each city in the state by the total number of violent crimes committed there to determine the rankings.

The eighth-largest city in California, Oakland, ranks first for having the highest overall crime rate in the state. It is the busiest port in San Francisco Bay and a significant trade hub for the Bay Area. Unfortunately, Oakland has one of the highest rates of crime in the state, making it safer than only 1% (or 1 out of 100, according to Neighborhood of American cities. While property crimes are 124% higher than the state average, violent crimes are 238% higher than the state average and 287% higher than the national average. Here, the likelihood of becoming a victim is about 1 in 14, and there are roughly 20 crimes per 100,000 people in the city each day.

An outpost of the San Francisco Bay region, Stockton is located in the state’s northern region. It is the 63rd largest city in the United States and the 13th largest city in California. This area has a crime rate of 4, which is 96% higher than the national average. Stockton’s rate is 217% higher than the California average and 263% higher than the national average in terms of violent offenses alone.

Modesto, the 18th largest city in California with a population of about 201,165, has an extremely high crime rate. In actuality, it is only 3% safer than the average American city and 102% higher than the national average. But that isn’t the only thing Modesto is renowned for. You might recall that the notorious Scott Peterson lived in Modesto; on Christmas Eve, when his wife was eight months pregnant, he killed her and their unborn son.
