$17 Million Student Debt Loan Forgiveness distributed in New Mexico

Last Month the New Mexico Higher Education Department announced to offer of two separate student loan forgiveness packages for healthcare professionals.

 

 

 

 

Student Debt Loan Forgiveness for Healthcare Professionals

In a report published by The Center Square, a new opportunity opened by the new Mexico Higher Education Department last month for healthcare professionals which they offer two separate student debt loan forgiveness packages.

The program rose by $13 million from last year when the student debt loan forgiveness packages were offered to 44 professionals. However this year, New Mexico offers 724 healthcare workers who will get a total of $14.6 million in their student debt loan forgiveness packages. They will receive the funds in exchange for a three-year commitment to working at high-need places throughout the state.

According to Governor Michelle Lujan, the program helps the New Mexicans to have affordable, accessible health care. This is the ultimate goal of the student debt loan forgiveness program. The government increases the Health Loan Repayment Program by $13 million as their extensive strategy to get and retain more health professionals in the state and the student debt loan forgiveness is a great way to achieve the goal.

The student debt loan forgiveness package had $75,000 each for the following professionals including 335 nurses, 84 doctors, 62 allied health practitioners, 5 dentists, 159 mental health professionals, and 79 nurse practitioners.

Also, the state has another program that offers partial student debt loan forgiveness to qualified and licensed professionals who enter the workforce after graduation. The state will offer $2.2 million for its Loan-For-Service Program by the Western Interstate Commission on Higher Education (WICHE). They are accepting applications from residents of New Mexico who have graduated from different schools in the state including veterinary medicine, optometry, and dentistry.
Individuals can petition for a student debt loan forgiveness program for multiple years and this student debt loan forgiveness could be forgiven entirely.

WICHE Loan-for-Service Program is an excellent way to increase the workforce by giving New Mexicans the encouragement they need ti pursue these fulfilling vocations and then give back to the communities. Secretary Stephanie M. Rodriguez said that New Mexico gives their full devotion to maintaining and recruiting licensed/qualified professionals to serve in high-need fields. With student debt loan forgiveness, you can apply to advanced degree programs that are offered in other states.

According to the report published by Inside Higher Ed that the press release that the following institutions are required to be attended in order to be potentially eligible for student debt loan forgiveness packages:
