Mayor Brandon Johnson Slams Texas Governor Abbott’s Handling of Migrant Crisis, Calls for Better Coordination
Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson took a stand against Republican Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s handling of the migrant crisis, accusing him of causing “chaos” by sending migrants to cities like New York and Chicago. During an appearance on CBS News’ “Face the Nation,” Mayor Johnson expressed deep concern as buses and a night plane arrived in Chicago from Texas, emphasizing the lack of coordination and labeling Governor Abbott’s actions as sowing “seeds of chaos.”
Mayor Johnson highlighted the urgency for Congress to address immigration reform and pointed out how Abbott’s decisions are not only causing chaos but also dividing the nation further.
He criticized the lack of resources available in cities like Chicago to accommodate the influx of migrants, emphasizing that more than 26,000 migrants had been bused into Chicago over the last 16 months. Johnson stressed that the current numbers are “not sustainable,” particularly during the city’s harsh winter months.
