As lawmakers created the California Reparations Bill, Angela Mooney D’Arcy believes that not only Black Americans should benefit from the program but also the Indigenous people.
What is California Reparations Bill?
Lawmakers established California Reparations Bill to provide recommendations and cash funds to Black Californians who are descendants of enslaved people. According to CBS News, if passed, the California Reparations Bill will include monetary compensation such as free college tuition to Black students and funding of wellness centers across Black neighborhoods.
Since California Reparations Bill is proposed only for Black descendants of the enslaved people, Angela Mooney D’Arcy, an Indigenous activist, claims that Indigenous people should also benefit from the California Reparations Bill. Yahoo! News reported that Native people in California had traumatic memories in terms of protecting their places.
It also stated that they have been fighting for their rights as they watch other people strip away their lands, which has caused violence among them. With these, D’Arcy calls out the lawmakers to include Indigenous people in the California Reparations Bill.

How to Apply For The Program As Part of California Reparations Bill?
Since the California Reparations Bill proposal was released, some Black people have been asked how to apply or who is eligible for the program. To those who are asking, they should trace their lineage or family connection to any enslaved Black people who lived in the US, NBC News stated.
Aside from that, they will be asked to have their DNA tested to determine their lineage. Also, they will be asked to provide birth certificates and census records to show that they are part of the lineage. Importantly, they should also hire a genealogist to determine if they are eligible for the program of the California Reparations Bill.
