According to travel safe-abroad, visitors can, for instance, swim in the largest hot springs pool in the world or hike the biggest dune in the nation at the Great Sand Dunes National Park in the San Luis Valley.

As a result of these desirable characteristics, Colorado’s population has grown in recent years and will reach 5.8 million in 2022. Sadly, this also means that crime rates have significantly increased. That’s why there are some cities in which labeled as the “Most Dangerous Cities in Colorado”.

For instance, the theft of motor vehicles increased by 13.6% in 2022, making the state the leader in these crimes.

Additionally, Colorado is second in the nation for property crimes.

Grand Junction

Every three hours and thirteen minutes, there is a crime in Grand Junction. With a crime grade of D+, the city has a higher crime rate than the national average, with Grand Junction ranking in the 29th percentile for safety. Grand Junction has one of the highest crime rates in the nation, even though it has a population of fewer than 70,000, with a crime rate of 49 crimes committed per 1000 residents. Statistics show that in Grand Junction, there is a 1 in 177 chance of becoming a victim of a violent crime and a 1 in 23 chance of becoming a victim of a property crime.

Aurora

The city had shockingly high crime rates in 2020, with 2,890 property crimes and 728 violent crimes per 100,000 residents. Visitors should take extra precautions to ensure their safety because Aurora is one of the most dangerous cities in the state, according to the FBI. The city has a medium level of risk overall, especially when it comes to pickpocketing, natural disasters, muggings, and women traveling alone. However, violent crimes like mugging and assault are prevalent in Aurora.

To protect yourself, stay alert, stay in well-lit areas, and walk with a knowledgeable person. Safer neighborhoods are southwest, while more dangerous ones are near Denver and Colfax.

 La Junta

The city receives an F safety grade due to its average crime rate of 84.67 per 1,000 residents. Residents claim that the northwest region is the safest, while the central neighborhoods are the most dangerous, where there is a one in ten chance of becoming a victim of crime. La Junta has a violent crime rate of 18.2, which is lower than the national average of 22.7. However, La Junta has a property crime rate of 77.1, which is significantly higher than the national average of 35.4. Always lock your car doors, roll up the windows, and leave your valuables at home to protect yourself from these. Protecting your home with a dependable security system is another way to avoid becoming a victim of property crime.
