Memphis has a thriving economy and a wide variety of entertainment options, making it one of the best places to live in the country, but here are its “most dangerous neighborhoods in Memphis” list.

Identifying Memphis’s Worst Neighborhoods for 2023

As stated by UpgradedHome, they evaluated several important factors, compared and contrasted the neighborhoods, and used a ranking system to determine which Memphis neighborhoods were the most disadvantaged. To give you insight into the city’s most difficult areas, we present to you the list below, which was compiled after careful evaluation.

Shelby Forest-Frayser

Our analysis shows that Shelby Forest-Frayser is still the most difficult Memphis neighborhood, and has been for some time. The area is extremely dangerous, with a violent crime rate of 2,434 per 100,000 people and a property crime rate of 6,623 per 100,000 people. With 34,952 inhabitants, this area is densely populated, but the odds of becoming a victim of crime there are unfavorable at 1 in 12.

Shelby Forest-Frayser’s high murder rate makes violent crimes perilous, often resulting in fatalities or severe injuries. Despite its stunning location on the Mississippi River and Meeman-Shelby Forest State Park, it is an attractive target for criminals due to its isolated nature.

Due to its location close to several highways, downtown Memphis is a chaotic and dangerous area. Because there are open spaces and escape routes under the overpasses, there are a lot of homeless people there as well. It can be concerning given the high rates of crime and poverty in this region.

Despite the problems, Downtown Memphis is still a well-liked travel destination because it is the home of country music. However, if you intend to travel there, it is best to book a hotel room away from the city center and in a safer neighborhood.
